Devlog11: Racc ‘n Run Has Left the Building!
After eleven long weeks of hard work, we are excited to announce that Racc'N'Run is finally complete!
Many thanks to our supervisors, Tristan and Koen, without whose feedback and guidance this game would not have been as good as it is now.
Since the last week has been spent on squashing bugs, ironing out the kinks, and otherwise polishing the game until it is as shiny as the loot inside, let's take a quick tour of the completed game.
The Museum
Our hand-crafted museum level is full of shiny loot to steal, rooms to run around in, lasers and cameras to keep an eye on, and a guard to avoid. Players spawn in their own personal zones, which double as the drop-off points for their loot, and which they will need to return to at the very end of the game to avoid losing points.
Shiny, Precious Loot
There is plenty of loot in the museum, from paintings to sword to diamonds - but not everything is worth a lot of points! To get ahead, make sure to go for the best, shiniest, most important objects - the things that glow! At the start of the game, three such objects will immediately spawn in - make sure to go for them first. And then, make sure to keep going for them, because they will respawn, and other players will get a chance to earn lots of points and get ahead of you, so you can never rest on your laurels.
Some loot is locked away behind glass - make use of the worthless stuff around the museum, and throw it at the glass to break it! Keep in mind - some loot is also fragile, and will break instead of breaking the glass. Be careful with those vases, guys. Of course, glass isn't the only thing suscpetible to the power of hard objects - stun your fellow players to grab their loot, or knock out the guard by throwing things at them!
Racc'N- Dash?
Need to run away from a camera? Evade players trying to grab your loot? Chase someone to grab their goods? Escape the guard? Never fear, dash is here!
Tug of War!
Try to snatch an item from another raccoon and you’ll trigger a Tug Of War over the it! If someone wins, they get the object - if no one wins for too long, everyone gets stunned, and sometimes the object will break! And if a third party gets involved... well, say goodbye to the loot and hello to being dazed.
On Alert
The museum guard is always on patrol, aided by laser traps and cameras scattered around to snitch on any raccoons that run into them. If he catches you, and you can't break free in time, he'll throw you out of the building! And in the time it takes for you to respawn, the other players get to steal all the shinies... So don't get caught! But you can always play with danger, and try to lure the guard to a rival, to get them caught instead - after all, a racoon carrying loot is the bigger problem, so the guard will start chasing them instead!
To Win or Not To Win, That Is The Question (To Win, Of Course)
Steal the most loot and get the highest score! But don't get greedy - if you can't return to your zone before the game ends, you will suffer a penalty. Unless you are very, very sure you can get that one last crown before time's up...
Thanks for following our progress on making this game, and take a gander at playing it yourself with your best friends! Steal stuff, break precious vases, and run around causing as much chaos as you like - we wish you an excellent time robbing a museum!
